Our Method – Known donor, At Home, ICI

Me and my wife are using a known donor because it was really important to us that in the future the child/children are able to have contact with their donor, even if they only seem him as the “Uncle” figure, and so we could ask questions about health and family history directly to the source and not via a biography. Our known donor is a good friend of ours so we will be using the ICI method at home. I have typed up a Known Donor Contract to which him, my wife and I will all signed in front of a notary. The Document outlines our full intentions of the process so there is no questioning it later on.

To go into a bit of detail our donor will come over and donate into a specimen collection cup. After he completes his donation he will give us the cup and we will use a needless syringe and suck up the semen. When sucking up the semen tip the cup slightly to the side and pull them in very slowly to reduce stress to the swimmers and to cause the least amount of air bundles to form. To increase your chances of the insemination taking it is recommended that you orgasm before you insert the syringe. This helps the because during an orgasm, or at the very least be pleased, the contractions help pull semen into the cervical canal so they can travel into the Uterus. Once an orgasm is reach you insert the semen filled syringe into the vagina and slowly release the semen then remove the syringe. To help with spillage put a pillow under your butt and lower back before you begin. Then sit and wait with your legs up for about 15 mins so you have a better likelihood of the semen fertilizing your eggs.

Every women has about a 25% chance of succession on average. Given that you follow your ovulation and are able to inseminate while you are ovulating it increases your chances to about 33%. I will go over different ways to know when you are ovulating on Monday.
